St Mary's Parish Church St Mary's Road 01455 234241 St Mary's Parish is Hinckley's oldest church building and belongs to the Church of England branch of religion. The Church was built in the 13th Century by the Normans, thus giving it it's prominent postition right next to the site of the Norman Castle. It's impossible to miss St Mary's Church from the centre of Hinckley because it's easily visible from most directions. The Church is open most days and there is a small cafe inside. For more information see the link below. With most Churches it comes with it's share of ghost stories. One of the most famous is the story of a young town militia volunteer who was murdered by his sergeant in the 17th Century. His tombstone in the church graveyard is said to bleed on the anniversary of his death. This particular story eminates from the Victorian era and is probably attributed to the type of stone used to make his headstone. Still you never know.
