the Hird Dimension:
and she's riding that stairlift to heaven Hello my darlings, well from my stairlift in heaven I've been looking down on you all, and in particular that lovely football team in red & blue. Me and Jimi Hendrix love a bit of 'knitting' of an evening and we really can't wait for Geri Halliwell to join us for a threesome. Knit one, Perl one, deary. So we thought what better way to pass our time than to follow the Knitter's football team.
There isn't that lovely, then.
Hello again my loveys, this evenings game would be from St Georges Lane, Worcester. Now Jimi knows his non-league ground, which quite surprised me as I thought he was all free love, alcohol, drugs, wah wah and peace, but apparently Jimi's a wizard with the internet as well as the 'Stratocaster'. Yes that's right we've got the internet up here in heaven too you know. St Peter was moaning he couldn't keep in touch with all the Angels, so God had Broadband installed. Anyway Jimi has been researching indepth for this seasons reports and he tells me that St Georges Lane is one of the last truly great 'classic' non-league grounds. It has character, quaintness and quality - all the ingredients for a non-league classic football ground.
The game was far from a classic though. Hinckley were even more injury plagued than their last game with Bradley Piercewright also out this evening. Dave Crowley did play but was still carrying his bruised ribs. Hinckley started well enough, chasing down the balls, putting pressure on the Worcester defence forcing them into errors and that lovely young Neil Cartwright overlapping on the right and getting in his traditional crosses. Leon Jackson mis hit a shot wide and Justin Jenkins was through, chipped the keeper, but saw it also go over the bar. The match turned after about half an hour. Worcester had a corner and Jimi Tells me they worked the 'Sheringham' routine. Oooh Sheringham what a nice place for a holiday, lovely beach and all that. Not so sure about Cromer, bit windy I think. Anyway according to Jimi the 'Sheringham' is where the ball is passed to the player on the near corner of the penalty area who then shoots at goal. They passed to Allan Davies who's shot was blocked but fell at the feet of John Holloway who scored the follow up. I'm sorry to say Hinckley lost all shape and discipline and weren't really in the game for the rest of the match. Worcester had a couple more chances before half time but didn't capitalise. Right on half time I nearly threw my knitting at the referee. That nasty horrible Adam Wilde scythed down the mild mannered Andy Penny. Jimi said he might just as well have used a pick axe. With everybody expecting a yellow card and some even red, the referee decided to let it go. It made my half time 'Earl Grey' taste very bitter I can tell you.
With 5 minutes of the second half gone Justin Jenkins also made a very bad foul, almost exactly like the assault of Adam Wilde. With 1000 baying home fans the ref reached for his book straight away and young innocent Justin had received a yellow card. I'm not saying the referee was a 'homer', but the referee was a 'homer'. The match continued much the same with Hinckley struggling to get hold of the ball. Worcester were really forcing the game now and on the hour had a spell of corners where Tommy Whittle made some good saves and Worcester also hit the woodwork. It wasn't until the last 15 minutes of the match that Hinckley had any real chances. A couple of corners and crosses came in and chances for Leon Jackson, Justin Jenkins and Andy Penny were all squandered. It was at this point with only minutes remaining that Worcester killed the game. After a break away they played another 'Sheringham' corner that Allan Davies, again, had the shot. It deflected off a defender and poor Tommy Whittle was stranded as the ball ended up in the net.
Full Time Worcester 2 - 0 Hinckley
Jimi's opinion was that with all the players missing we would always struggle in midfield. Not being able to get hold of and keep the ball would mean we were on the back foot for most of the game. Once Worcester had scored all the work would be to get the ball off them, and on the night Hinckley just didn't have the right players in the right positions doing the right jobs. He also added that Worcester were as strong and organised as you'd always expect a Worcester side to be.
