| All systems go for 'Sporting Hub' | |

http://www.hen-news.co.uk/: All systems are go in a �10 million scheme to build a state-of-the-art leisure centre at a projected 'sporting hub.' If all goes to plan, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough will become the proud possessor of what is being termed a 'sporting hub' which already has a start at the Marston's Stadium on Leicester Road. A meeting of the council this week heard talks are ongoing with the landowner with a view to begin work at the site as soon as possible. Borough council Chief Executive, Steve Atkinson, said: "It was a unanimous vote by members for a relocation out of town. Generally, everyone was happy with the options, which are still open, regarding a move next to the football club, or across the road at the former crematorium site which the council owns. The sooner the better." Delighted borough Deputy Chief Executive, Bill Cullen, said: "Our advice to the all party working group was not just to look at the potential for a leisure centre in isolation, but to develop a major high quality sporting centre, and meet all the requirements of these sports. What we see is our commitment to that, and to commission design work for the sporting hub. We looked at the option of refurbishment of the existing leisure centre in the town, but there were lots of unknown costs to get a wholesale transformation of the centre." As well as the leisure centre and the football club, the 'sporting hub' could include the nearby rugby, tennis, squash and cricket clubs.Plus, in addition, the council would include the former crematorium site nearby, so that sporting facilities could be added to the 'hub' in the future." A working party was set up in September last year to look at the options which came down in favour of relocating to the A47 as being better for residents in the borough, with easy access for those living in rural areas. The current contract with leisure centre operator, SLM, runs out in 2011. The working party also concluded that expensive restoration of the existing leisure centre would force it to be closed for up to a year, which the council, with its responsibilites to those using the centre, felt to be 'unrealistic.' |

http://www.hinckley-info.co.uk: Hinckley Leisure Centre could be relocated to a site off the A47 Leicester Road to form an integral part of a new �sporting hub� for the Borough. The proposed site is alongside Hinckley United�s Marstons Stadium and, if the full council agrees to the concept at its meeting on Wednesday 7th May, negotiations will take place with the landowner with a view to purchasing it. As well as the leisure centre and the football club, the �sporting hub� could include the adjacent rugby, tennis, squash and cricket clubs. In addition, the council would include the land formerly purchased for the �crematorium site�, which it owns nearby, so that more sporting facilities could be added to the hub in the future. It is also hoped that the creation of a high quality hub would make it easier for the individual sports clubs to gain funding in the future to improve their facilities. The council has already allocated a budget of �10 million to refurbish the existing leisure centre on Coventry Road, Hinckley, or to build a new centre elsewhere. A Working Party was appointed in September 2007 to examine the options and has recommended that re-locating to the A47 would better serve residents in the rest of the Borough as access is easier for those living in the rural area. In addition, the Working Party agreed that refurbishing the existing centre would not offer value for money. It would also result in its closure for at least a year while the work was carried out, and this was felt to be unrealistic as the council has a duty of care to those who use these facilities. |

| Charity begins at Holmes Park | |
| The 2008/2009 season finished on an unspecatacular non event at Leicestershire FA's Holmes Park, as Hinckley United raised enough apathy to canter home to a 4-1 defeat gifted to Oadby Town. Highlight of the evening were the Holmes Park Officials telling both the Hinckley and Oadby players to get off the pitch, just before coming on the pitch to play a 90 minute football match! For what it's worth, Adam Webster scored Hinckley's goal late on, but I'm not sure anyone really noticed. The Oadby fans seemed happy, so that's fair enough. | |

| Manager of the Month April 2008 | |
| Dean Thomas has won the award for Manager of the Month for April in the Blue Square North. Hinckley extended their unbeaten run from the early weeks of March to nine matches during the period. Hinckley achieved safety from relegation with their excellent run and ended up 6 points from the drop zone on the final day of the season. Three successive clean sheets in their final games ensured the team will take their place in the division next season. | |
